Rare Earth Oxides

Resources and reserves are typically reported as Rare Earth Oxides (REO), which are the desired final products from many mining operations. The grades of rare earth oxides are usually expressed in parts per million (ppm) or as a percentage (%) of Total Rare Earth Oxides (TREO).

TREO represents the sum of the oxides of both heavy rare earth elements (HREO) and light rare earth elements (LREO). Critical Rare Earth Oxides (CREO) are a subset of these oxides, identified by the US Department of Energy in December 2011 as critical due to their importance for clean energy technologies and their supply risk. These critical oxides include those of Neodymium (Nd), Dysprosium (Dy), Europium (Eu), Yttrium (Y), and Terbium (Tb).
