Vanadium nitride is an oblate, cylindrical, or prismatic solid with a beige metallic luster and a density of 2.9-3.5 g/cm³. It is an important vanadium alloy additive used in structural steel, tool steel, pipeline steel, reinforcing steel, ordinary engineering steel, and cast iron.

• The addition of vanadium nitride to steel can improve the comprehensive mechanical properties of steel such as wear resistance, corrosion resistance, toughness, strength, hardness, ductility, and thermal fatigue resistance, and make the steel have good weldability.
• Especially in high-strength low-alloy steels, vanadium nitride alloy additives are more conducive to the precipitation of vanadium carbide and vanadium nitride in the steel, thereby strengthening and refining grains more effectively.
• Compared to ferrovanadium, vanadium nitride is more effective in strengthening and grain refinement. It reduces the amount of vanadium needed, saving 20-40% of vanadium while achieving the same strength.
