Tellurium Tetraiodide (TeI4) is a covalent compound, which is stable at room temperature even in humid air but decomposes to iodine when heated. It decomposes in water to form tellurium dioxide and hydrogen iodide. It is soluble in hydriodic acid, lye, and ammonia, and slightly soluble in acetone, ethanol, and pentanol. However, it is almost insoluble in carbon tetrachloride, carbon disulfide, esters, and acetic acid. At atmospheric pressure, it will begin to sublimate and partially decompose when the temperature is above 118°C. However, its melting point in a sealed tube is 280°C.
