Lanthanum is a rare earth element with the symbol La and atomic number 57. It is a soft and ductile metal that tarnishes slowly when exposed to air and is soft enough to be cut with a knife. It can be used to manufacture high-temperature alloys, superconducting materials, catalysts, optical glass, lanthanum-iron permanent magnets, and other fields.
