Bismuth Fluoride (BiF3) Powder is a white crystalline compound that is capable of volatilizing at higher temperatures without undergoing decomposition. It is primarily employed in the preparation of bismuth pentafluoride.
Bismuth Fluoride (BiF3) exists in two forms, α and β, which can be converted to the β type by heating it to 220℃. It has a melting point ranging from 725 to 730℃. When heated to 900℃, significant evaporation occurs. It is insoluble in water and hydrogen fluoride solutions. By hydrolysis with excess hydrogen fluoride acid, bismuth hydroxide acid BiF3·2HF can be produced, which can further be heated to form BiOF·2HF. Upon further heating, it transforms into BiF3 and BOF.
