This results in a layered carbon/nitride-based material with outstanding conductivity and hydrophilicity. The general formula for MXenes is Mn+1XnTx, where Tx represents the functional groups (-OH, -F, -O, -Cl, etc.) that attach to the surface after chemical etching of the MAX precursor. By employing techniques like ultrasonic dispersion or ball milling, multi-layer MXenes can be exfoliated into monolayer MXene nanosheets, which have a graphene-like structure.
