What Is Tungsten Rhenium Alloy?

Tungsten-rhenium alloy (W-Re), like tungsten-copper, tungsten-molybdenum, and tungsten-nickel-iron alloys, is a high-density tungsten-based alloy that combines a range of excellent properties of both tungsten and rhenium metals. This alloy primarily comprises tungsten as the base metal, with rhenium added in varying proportions, typically at 1%, 3%, 5%, 20%, 25%, and 26%. Tungsten-rhenium alloys exhibit a series of outstanding properties, such as high melting point, high strength, high hardness, high plasticity, high recrystallization temperature, high electrical resistivity, low vapor pressure, low electron work function, and low ductile-to-brittle transition temperature.

Tungsten Rhenium Alloy Applications

  • Thermocouples
Tungsten rhenium alloys are commonly used to manufacture high-temperature thermocouples, which are suitable for measuring temperatures in extremely high-temperature environments up to 2300°C.
  • Aerospace
Tungsten rhenium alloys are used to manufacture high-temperature structural components and engine parts that maintain stability and strength at extreme temperatures.
  • Electronic equipment
Tungsten rhenium alloys are used in high-temperature electronic components and electrodes due to their good electrical conductivity and high-temperature resistance.
  • Medical equipment
Tungsten rhenium alloy is also used in some medical equipment that requires high-temperature operation.
  • Nuclear industry
Tungsten rhenium alloy can be used in high-temperature components in nuclear reactors because of its radiation resistance and high-temperature performance.

Tungsten Rhenium Alloy Packaging and Shipping

Tungsten Rhenium Alloy products will be carefully packaged in wooden cases, and supported with soft materials to prevent movement during transportation. This ensures that the products remain securely in place throughout the packaging process.
