Neodymium Disilicide (NdSi2) Powder Synthesis Process 

  • Method 1:

  1. Mix Nd, Si, and Hg, then place the mixture in a quartz tube.
  2. Heat the tube in an electric furnace at approximately 450°C for 10–12 hours.
  3. Remove excess Hg through bent-tube distillation.
  4. After all, Hg is collected at the cold end, and the product is at 450–600°C at the hot end of the tube.
  • Method 2:

  1. Weigh Nd₂O₃ and Si according to the stoichiometric ratio and continuously evacuate.
  2. React the mixture in a vacuum in an alumina boat.
  3. Quickly and completely remove SiO formed during the reaction.
  4. Control the reaction temperature at 1100–1600°C, avoiding temperatures above 1600°C to prevent impurities from container reactions.
