Magnesium Aluminate (MgAl6O10) Crystal Substrate, also called Spinel Crystal Substrate, is an advanced material for GaN and ZnO epitaxial growth, belonging to the cubic crystal system with a space group of Fd-3m (227) and a lattice parameter of a = 7.9780Å. Compared to MgAl2O4, MgAl6O10 has a lower thermal expansion mismatch (2.2×10⁻⁶ K⁻¹) and lattice mismatch (−11.5%) with GaN, making it a more suitable substrate. Additionally, its lower melting point facilitates the growth of larger, high-quality crystals. Studies have shown that GaN and ZnO devices fabricated on MgAl6O10 substrates exhibit improved luminescence performance compared to sapphire-based devices.
