Mercury Gallium Sulfide (HGS) Crystal offers a high laser damage threshold and conversion efficiency, making it ideal for frequency doubling and OPO/OPA applications in the 1.0 to 10 µm range. For instance, a 4 mm HGS element achieves approximately 10% frequency doubling efficiency with CO2 laser radiation. Despite the challenges in growing large crystals, HGS competes with other nonlinear crystals like AgGaS2, AgGaSe2, ZnGeP2, and GaSe due to its high conversion efficiency and wide tuning range. Heeger Materials (HM) provides high-quality HGS crystals for advanced nonlinear frequency conversion.
