Bismuth (III) sulfide (Bi2S3) has a layered (lamellar) structure much similar to other 2D crystals such as graphite, MoS2, and Sb2Te3. It is stabilized in the orthorhombic phase and has semiconducting behavior (~1.4 eV gap). It can be exfoliated down to monolayers through standard mechanical exfoliation techniques. The crystals were characterized and confirmed by x-ray diffraction (XRD), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman, photoluminescence, SIMS, and Auger electron spectroscopy techniques.
