Molybdenum Rods and Bars, produced through powder metallurgy and subsequent forming processes, combine a high melting point, good thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion, and dimensional stability at elevated temperatures. They are widely used for electric vacuum devices, light-source components, high-temperature heating elements, structural components, electrodes, and furnace hardware.
Heeger Materials supplies pure molybdenum, TZM, and MoLa rods and bars in standard and custom dimensions for vacuum furnaces, glass-melting equipment, ceramic processing equipment, high-temperature assemblies, and precision-machined components.

Molybdenum rods and bars are selected according to operating temperature, atmosphere, mechanical requirements, dimensions, machining requirements, and final application.

Browse molybdenum products for sheets, plates, tubes and crucibles. For higher density or extreme-temperature requirements, compare tungsten products; for corrosion-resistant chemical environments, see tantalum products.
Can molybdenum rods be supplied in custom diameters? Yes. Heeger Materials can review custom diameter, length, tolerance, surface finish and quantity requirements for research or production use.
Heeger Materials supplies pure molybdenum, TZM, and MoLa rods and bars. ASTM B387/B387M grades, including powder-metallurgy Mo 361 and TZM Mo 364, are available according to product requirements.
Pure molybdenum provides high-temperature capability, good thermal conductivity, and low thermal expansion. TZM is a molybdenum alloy containing titanium and zirconium and is selected when increased high-temperature mechanical performance is required.
Molybdenum rods are available with black, cleaned, and centerless-ground surfaces. Ground rods are recommended when tighter diameter control is required.

| Material | Key Characteristics | Typical Selection |
|---|---|---|
| Pure Molybdenum | High purity, good thermal conductivity, low thermal expansion | General vacuum, furnace, electrode and machined parts |
| TZM | Higher strength at elevated temperatures than pure Mo | High-load furnace hardware and structural components |
| MoLa | Improved high-temperature structural stability compared with pure Mo | High-temperature furnace and thermal applications |
Black or oxidized molybdenum surfaces may require mechanical or chemical cleaning depending on oxide thickness and the required final surface condition.
Chemical oxide removal can involve highly hazardous acids and should only be performed under an approved industrial chemical-treatment procedure by trained personnel with appropriate engineering controls and PPE.
For applications requiring a clean or precision surface, we recommend ordering cleaned or centerless-ground molybdenum rod directly rather than performing post-delivery chemical treatment.

Molybdenum rods and bars are used for heating elements, supports, fixtures, fasteners, and structural components in vacuum and protective-atmosphere furnaces.
Molybdenum rods can be used as electrodes in selected glass-melting and refractory-fiber production systems where high-temperature performance and electrical conductivity are required.
Pure molybdenum rods are used for selected electric vacuum devices and light-source components requiring refractory-metal properties and dimensional stability.
Molybdenum rods can be machined into selected components for ion implantation, vacuum, and semiconductor-processing equipment.
Pure Mo, TZM, and MoLa rods can be used for high-temperature supports, fixtures, shafts, pins, and other machined components according to operating conditions.
Molybdenum rods are also used as electrodes and conductive components in selected metallurgical and high-temperature processes.
The Molybdenum Rods and Bars will be carefully packaged in wooden cases, with additional support from soft materials, to prevent any shifting or movement during transit.
