It features a cross-relaxation process that generates two ions per absorbed photon in a higher energy state. Tm:YLF lasers are ideal for pumping Ho:YAG lasers due to their spectral overlap and ability to produce linearly polarized output. The crystal’s refractive index decreases with temperature, causing negative thermal lensing, which is partly compensated by a positive lens effect.
