What is TZM Molybdenum Alloy?

TZM alloy plate is a molybdenum-based alloy plate with titanium and zirconium as alloying elements. It is a commonly used high-temperature alloy in molybdenum-based alloys. Its composition is 0.50% titanium, 0.08% zirconium, and the remaining 0.02% carbon molybdenum alloy. When the temperature reaches 1300 degrees Celsius, the strength of the TZM plate is twice that of the pure molybdenum plate, and the recrystallization temperature is 250 degrees Celsius higher than that of pure molybdenum, with better high-temperature performance. Therefore, TZM is used as structural parts in high-temperature vacuum furnaces. TZM is also widely used in high-temperature resistance, radiation shielding, and aviation fields.

TZM Molybdenum Alloy Applications

  • Aerospace: Used for manufacturing high-temperature components such as jet engine nozzles and high-temperature gas turbine parts.
  • Defense: Used for manufacturing high-temperature warheads, missile engines, etc.
  • Electronics: Used for manufacturing vacuum tubes, semiconductor processing equipment, optical glass processing equipment, etc.
  • Medical equipment: Used for manufacturing medical equipment such as X-ray targets, pacemakers, etc.
  • Environmental protection: TZM alloy can be used as a catalyst carrier and environmental protection material.

Uses of TZM Alloy

  • Used in parts manufacturing for the electronics and semiconductor industries, molybdenum sputtering targets
  • Used in making furnace walls for high-temperature furnaces
  • Used in sapphire crystal growth furnace components
  • Used in molybdenum heat shields and reflective screens for vacuum furnaces
  • Used in making crucibles
  • Used in semiconductor thin film integrated circuits

TZM Molybdenum Alloy Machining

The Arc Melting Method

The arc melting method prepares TZM alloy through the following steps:

  1. Use an arc to melt pure molybdenum.
  2. Add a certain amount of alloying elements such as Ti and Zr according to weight percentage.
  3. Obtain TZM alloy by conventional casting method.

The Metallurgical Method

The steps of the metallurgical method are as follows:

  1. Mix high-purity molybdenum powder with TiH2 powder, ZrH2 powder, and graphite powder in proportion.
  2. Isostatic pressing.
  3. Sinter at high temperature under a protective atmosphere to obtain TZM billet.
  4. The billet is subjected to high-temperature hot rolling (forging), high-temperature annealing, medium-temperature hot rolling (forging), medium-temperature annealing to eliminate stress, and then warm rolling (warm forging).
  5. Finally, the TZM finished material is obtained.

TZM Molybdenum Alloy Packing

TZM Molybdenum Alloy will be carefully packaged in wooden cases, and supported with soft materials to prevent movement during transportation. This ensures that the products remain securely in place throughout the packaging process.
