Material Grades

Unalloyed Tantalum (RO5200, Vacuum Electron Beam Melted), Powder Metallurgy Tantalum (RO5400), and Ta-W alloys (Ta2.5W, Ta10W).

≥ 99.95% (Trace impurities strictly controlled, detailed COA provided per batch).

  • UNS R05255, tantalum alloy, 90 % tantalum, 10 % tungsten, electron-beam furnace of vacuum-arc melt, or both.
  • UNS R05252, tantalum alloy, 97.5 % tantalum, 2.5 % tungsten, electron-beam furnace vacuum-arc melt, or both.

Where Our Tantalum Plates Are Used

Due to its excellent thermal conductivity, ductility, and inertness to most acids (including Aqua Regia), our Ta plates are utilized across highly regulated sectors:

  • Chemical Processing Equipment: Fabricated into heat exchangers, reaction vessels, condensers, and bursting discs where resistance to severe acidic environments is critical.

  • Medical Devices: Tantalum is highly biocompatible and radio-opaque. Our plates are frequently stamped or machined into surgical implants, orthopedic bone plates, and pacemaker components.

  • Aerospace & Defense: Used as heat shields, rocket motor parts, and in the formulation of high-temperature superalloys for turbine blades.

  • Sputtering Targets: Thicker plates are machined into high-purity Tantalum sputtering targets for semiconductor thin-film coating.

Engineering Note: Machining Tantalum

Tantalum is notoriously "gummy" and prone to galling during machining. Our engineering team recommends using high-speed steel (HSS) or cemented carbide tools with highly positive rake angles. Copious amounts of water-soluble cutting fluids must be applied to prevent chip welding and ensure a smooth surface finish. If you require pre-machined tantalum parts rather than blank plates, our CNC division can provide fully fabricated components to your exact drawings.

Tantalum Plate Packaging

The Tantalum Plate will be carefully packaged in a wooden case supported by soft materials to prevent any movement or shifting during transportation.
