Tantalum rods have unique properties such as high melting point, corrosion resistance, and biocompatibility, making them the preferred material in medical, mechanical parts, aerospace, and laboratory equipment industries. Tantalum rods can be shaped into a tantalum round bar and a tantalum square rod.

Heeger Materials provides premium Tantalum (Ta) and Tantalum-Tungsten (Ta-W) alloy rods, manufactured through rigorous forging, swaging, and drawing processes. Our rods feature a highly uniform, defect-free grain structure, making them the ultimate raw material for CNC machining critical components used in corrosive chemical processing, high-temperature vacuum furnaces, and aerospace superalloys.

We offer unalloyed pure tantalum as well as tungsten-alloyed variations to meet your specific mechanical requirements:
Pure Tantalum (RO5200/RO5400): ≥ 99.95% purity. Offers the highest ductility and ultimate corrosion resistance (inert to nearly all acids, including Aqua Regia).
Ta-2.5W Alloy (RO5252): Contains 2.5% Tungsten. Provides higher yield strength than pure tantalum while maintaining excellent corrosion resistance and weldability.
Ta-10W Alloy (RO5255): Contains 10% Tungsten. Engineered for extreme high-temperature environments. Offers superior tensile strength, hardness, and creep resistance compared to unalloyed Ta.
All rods and bars are manufactured in strict accordance with ASTM B365 standards. We offer highly customizable dimensions to minimize your material waste during secondary machining:
Diameter Range: 3.0 mm to 100+ mm (From thin rods to heavy billets)
Length: Standard cut-to-length or custom lengths available
Tolerance: Standard ASTM tolerances applied; ultra-high precision tolerances (e.g., h7/h9) available upon request
Shape: Round rods, square bars, and hexagonal bars available
Mechanical State: Available in Annealed (soft, ideal for deep drawing/forming) or Unannealed/Cold-Worked (hard, for maximum structural rigidity).
Surface Options: Centerless ground (smooth, shiny, and precise), turned, or chemically cleaned. Guaranteed free of cracks, internal voids, or surface oxidation.
Tantalum is known for its "gummy" machining characteristics, similar to pure copper, which can lead to galling or tool welding. For turning or milling our Ta rods, we highly recommend using high-speed steel (HSS) or uncoated carbide tools with highly positive rake angles. Copious amounts of water-soluble coolants must be used continuously to flush chips and achieve a clean surface finish.
The Tantalum Rod and Tantalum Bar are carefully placed in wooden cases or cartons with additional support from soft materials to prevent any shifting during transportation. This packaging method guarantees the integrity of the products throughout the delivery process.
